How to Get There:
Sand Dune Arch is located within Arches National Park, about 18 miles from the entrance and just a short drive from Moab, Utah. To get there, head north from Moab on US-191 and turn right into the park. Follow the main road (Arches Scenic Drive) until you reach the parking area for Sand Dune Arch, which is well-signposted along the way. There is a $30 per vehicle fee or the America the Beautiful Pass gets you in for free.
Parking Information:
There is a designated parking area for Sand Dune Arch, which is shared with the Broken Arch Trailhead. The parking lot can fill up quickly, especially during peak season, so it’s advisable to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon to secure a spot.
Description of the Landscape:
The Sand Dune Arch Trail takes you through a narrow, sandy pathway surrounded by towering sandstone fins. As you walk, you’ll be enveloped by the cool shade provided by the tall rock formations, which contrast beautifully with the deep blue sky above. The trail leads to a secluded arch hidden within the sandstone fins, making it feel like a secret discovery in the vast desert landscape.

The Sand Dune Arch Trail is classified as an easy hike, making it suitable for all ages and skill levels. The trail is only 0.3 miles round trip, and the terrain is mostly flat, with soft sand underfoot. Is It Dog Friendly?
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on any trails within Arches National Park, including the Sand Dune Arch Trail. Pets are permitted in the parking areas and campgrounds, but they must be kept on a leash and are not allowed on the trails or in the backcountry.

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit the Sand Dune Arch Trail is during the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) when the temperatures are mild, and the park is less crowded. Summer can be extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F, making hiking uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Winter offers cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, but be prepared for the possibility of snow and icy conditions.
