How to Get There:
Canyonlands National Park is located about 30 miles from Moab, Utah. To reach the White Rim Overlook Trail, follow US-191 north for approximately 10 miles, then turn left onto UT-313 and follow the signs toward Island in the Sky. There is a $30 per vehicle fee or the America the Beautiful Pass gets you in for free. After entering the park, continue on the main road for about 6 miles until you see the turnoff for the Grand View Point Road. The trailhead for White Rim Overlook is located about 2 miles down this road, near the Gooseberry parking area.
Parking Information:
Parking is available at the Gooseberry parking area, which serves as the trailhead for the White Rim Overlook Trail. The parking lot is relatively small, and it can fill up quickly, especially during peak hiking seasons. Arriving early in the morning is advisable to secure a spot and enjoy a quieter hike. If the lot is full, there are additional parking areas along the main road where you can park and walk to the trailhead.

As you walk along the trail, you’ll be surrounded by vast desert landscapes, with the White Rim Road and the Colorado River far below. Is White Rim Overlook Trail Dog-Friendly?
Like most trails in Canyonlands National Park, the White Rim Overlook Trail is not dog-friendly. Pets are not allowed on hiking trails, in the backcountry, or on unpaved roads within the park. They are, however, permitted in parking areas, campgrounds, and along paved roads, but they must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. If you’re traveling with a pet, consider alternative activities outside the park.

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to hike the White Rim Overlook Trail is during the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) when temperatures are mild, and the park is less crowded. Summer can be extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F, so it’s best to hike early in the morning or later in the afternoon during this season. Winter offers cooler temperatures and a quieter experience, but be prepared for possible snow or icy conditions on the trail.
